In celebration of National Trails Day, come join the Carolina Thread Trail for a guided hike through the Catawba Lands Conservancy's Forney Creek Conservation Area! This natural surface trail stretches 1.2 miles along Forney Creek in eastern Lincoln County. Access is across the road from Sally's YMCA. The wooded area provides an escape into nature, as the 85-acre preserve is protected by Catawba Lands Conservancy. An interesting feature is the 66-foot long suspension bridge crossing Forney Creek as well as a pond that is named in honor of David Clark, Sr. Many species of oaks are found in the preserve, providing shade along the trail and shelter for the wildlife. Occasionally, trail visitors will be treated to the sight of an eastern box turtle or other small critters in the leaf litter.
