Join the Carolina Thread Trail in exploring the peaks and gullies of Bakers Mountain. This natural-surface 2.75-mile route follows the park’s outer perimeter, through a chestnut oak forest up to the observation platform, passing various landmarks along the way including a crooked tree, an historic chimney, a gazebo and numerous rock outcroppings. Amazing views of the valley await at the peak, after a challenging though short climb!
From the mountaintop, the trail descends more than 500 feet to the park’s lowest point, then follows a babbling stream that drops over rock ledges within a habitat that is home to a variety of plants and amphibians. The trail then reenters a hardwood forest to complete the loop.
This hike is rated as moderately difficult.
